Post 6: Readicide

Readicide was not an issue I was aware of when on the topic of school books. For school books I take a positive approach and try to enjoy the book as it is. Though this question does come to me when I get a new school book to read. How does the school pick the books we read and write and be tested over on? The after this discussion of the problem of kids not liking reading and how schools try to fix it. Help me understand how the school tried to fix this. I agree whole heartily that schools can try better on getting kids to read. I can see how that school pick books to help give them what the real world is like and all. Though most of those books were written before we were born and it be hard to relate to for most high schools. They are books that is more modern and help us teach us the world the same as school approve books. Though the school and the people who said we should read this and say it’s better. Though with this type of training don’t we kill the joy of reading. I agree that yes we school read the literary fiction, though there should be a balanced. As said in the discussion, this help keep people reading and enjoy both worlds of popular read and the classics. I believe this help with the problem of kids hating to read. I was an example of kids that hated to read when I was younger. I even sleep at reading time, though as I got older and teachers who let me read more books that I enjoy and with the school books. I enjoyed to read again and if this help me read again than this will work.

  1. I agree with you there should be a balance of classic Literature and books we actually want to read. That way this doesn't kill a students love of reading because they will know there are more books out there that interest them. Good job!
